About/Mission
Super Bad Theater Company seeks to build a greater capacity for joy, levity, knowledge, and enrichment in our communities, one story at a time. Not simply invested in providing high-quality theater programming that entertains diverse audiences, we believe in performances that connect us to the universal human condition. We also remain in the spirit of giving back through transformative education and dedicated mentorship. Super Bad Theater Company sees itself as a hub of collective imagining and authentic truthtelling, fostering a radical space for the creation, production, and presentation of dynamic, empowering, and unbounded stories that reflect the rich culture of our many communities to audiences in the San Francisco Bay Area. Reaching beyond the main stage, Super Bad Theater Company seeks to engage local youth in civic participation through theater arts while supporting artists of color with professional and creative development opportunities designed to create the next wave of socially impactful original works.
Always centering black voices and experiences, Super Bad Theater Company strives to advance equity through the deliberate staging and featuring of black playwrights and artists and the curation of theater experiences that offer new ways of telling stories about black life. With inclusion, education, and the celebration of difference at the heart of our work and mission, Super Bad Theater Company ultimately finds purpose in building resiliency and competency for racial equity and invites audiences to witness and participate in the ongoing creation of work that sparks social awareness and stimulates our collective understanding of ourselves and others through the experience of live theatre.
